Birthday boy Jack scoops top award
A COMMUNITY champion has won a prestigious national award in recognition of his tireless volunteer work.
The dedicated volunteer, and former social club chairman, has devoted ten years to organising activities for pensioners living on and around Green Farm Close estate in Chesterfield.
He is set to be presented with the top accolade and more than £100 in shopping vouchers by Julia Coulton, regional housing director for William Sutton Homes, at a special awards presentation on Friday 6 June.
The occasion will be a double celebration for Jack – who will be 78 years-old on Friday.
Jack, who retired as chairman earlier this year, said: “It will be a double celebration. I am so pleased to receive this award and I feel very humbled by it. The social club made a big difference to people locally and I enjoyed being involved with it immensely.”
William Sutton Homes organises its own staff and residents awards scheme annually which seeks to recognise excellence.
The best community initiative is a national award for both staff and residents who are believed to have organised and run excellent community initiatives that have benefitted local people.
Julia Coulton, regional housing director for William Sutton Homes, said: “Jack has worked tirelessly for the community and we are delighted to present him with this award.
“At William Sutton Homes we are always looks for ways to support strong communities and the Hassop Close social club contributes directly to that.”
